At last the cold spell is over and we are no longer recipients of the icy cold winds from northern Europe, which have been making our fields look so brown & unwelcoming! In the last few days here in Annaharvey Farm & around the country the weather has warmed up a little and we have had a few showers of rain which hopefully will restore our grass to it’s wonderful luscious green – I don’t think we thought we would ever see the day when we would be watching the weather forecast for rain!!
The guys have been so busy sowing corn, rolling the fields, spreading fertiliser, putting in new fencing in the paddocks and generally doing maintenance – it is a very busy and active time of year on all farms. It is also such a joy to hear the birds singing early in the mornings & late in the evenings – spring brings such a sense of hope and anticipation to us all. The horses are out in the paddocks now at night and shortly will be rid of their rugs and winter coats. two of the mares are due to foal and are in the foaling paddock, but not much sign of a move yet – ours all have a habit of foaling around 3am which is a bit of a sleep disturbancer!! Guests have been coming and going from all around the world, and we are looking forward to welcoming many more over the coming months.
There was great excitement locally when Dot Love’s horse won the Irish Grand National – we were all so pleased for her as she has worked very hard over the years as a trainer not only of thoroughbreds but also of eventers & showjumpers – so well done to all her team at Charlestown Stud in Mullingar.
